Pre SI-IMS (Pre Strategic Initiative for Interdisciplinary Materials Science)
Octber, 2007 - June, 2008
|
Pre-Strategic Initiative for interdisciplinary Materials Science (Pre-SI-IMS)
was approved by University of Tsukuba in October 2007 on condition that the two research proposals would be incorporated:
innovative hybrid molecules (leader: Toshiharu Teranishi) and interdisciplinary
optical science (leader: Yutaka Moritomo).
Pre-SI-IMS successfully accomplished the following:
|
- The First International Symposium on Interdisciplinary Materials Science
(ISIMS2008) was held at Tsukuba International Congress Center in March
13th- 14th 2008. This symposium consisted of four different session groups:
interdisciplinary optical science, hybrid molecules, nano-science, and
biomaterials, and subgroups of each session.Twenty one invited lectures were presented by leading experts, and ninety
two poster presentation were given in the symposium. All participants actively
exchanged their information during the event.
One of
our workshops, “Light and Materials”, was held in November 10th 2008
and March 3rd 2009. Through this
workshop, participants were able to understand each other and find a way to
lead interdisciplinary optical science based upon the
concept of connecting optical science and materials science, and integration of
physics, chemistry, engineering, and biology.
As a part of international exchange and cooperation program, we held a
joint workshop with University of Nebraska Medical Center in Nebraska,
and concluded the agreement for academic exchanges and cooperation.
- SI-IMS provided two training
courses: “Bio (Cell Culture)” and “Lithography”, and one lecture: “Laser-
Safety Program”. These courses enabled researchers
to learn practical skills and expand their study fields.
- We invited research proposals from
female and young researchers within our group. As a result of selection, one female and four
young researchers were selected to be supported their researches. Their researches were presented in the
International Symposium (ISIMS 2008).
- SI-IMS provide financial support for 8 students in doctoral programs
- We offered the interdisciplinary
materials science experience course to middle and high school students and
adults. The event was held at University
of Tsukuba in March 26th 2009.
